State report card
Virginia rates schools two ways. Accreditation means a school “submitted all required evidence to the Department of Education as prescribed in the Standards of Accreditation,” in the words of the state profile. The School Performance and Support Framework gives each school a score and one of four performance levels: Distinguished, Meets Expectations, Approaching Expectations and Needs Intensive Support.
- Accreditation: Fully Accredited, the state’s designation for the 2025-26 school year.
- Framework score: 73.84, performance level Approaching Expectations, in the state’s division summary.
- Federal accountability: “Not Identified for Support and Improvement” for 2025-26, the profile shows.
Standards of Learning pass rates (share of tested students who passed, third and fourth grade tests):
| Subject | 2023-24 | 2024-25 | 2025-26 | Virginia, all grades, 2025-26 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| English reading | 51% | 51% | 52% | 74% |
| Math | 40% | 55% | 59% | 73% |

Attendance zone and feeder schools
Five elementary zones divide the city. Enter an address in the division’s WebQuery lookup and choose the grade (PK for preschool) to see the assigned school and bus stop. Our neighborhoods guide puts Bristoe Station and most of Wellington in the Jennie Dean zone, with parts of Downtown and Georgetown South, based on the city’s 2017 school boundary map.
In addresses we checked in the division’s WebQuery lookup on Oct. 20, homes in the Jennie Dean zone were assigned to Mayfield Intermediate for fifth and sixth grade. Every city student then attends Grace E. Metz Middle and Osbourn High.
The zone stops at the city line. Many homes with a Manassas mailing address are in Prince William County, which runs its own schools. Kindergarten registration is for children who turn 5 on or before Sept. 30, the division’s registration page says.

About the school
A new building. The division’s new Jennie Dean project page says the School Board chose to build a new school instead of repairing the 60-year-old building, and posts the architects’ updates from November and December 2023. The school’s about page now gives its address as 9615 Jennie Dean Way.
The school’s daily schedule, from its about page: the office is open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., kiss and ride runs 8:20 to 8:35 a.m., and students are marked late from 8:30 a.m. Report an absence on the attendance line, 571-377-6303.
The school carries the name of Jennie Dean, who in 1893 set out to found the Manassas Industrial School for African American children. The about page says the school later served as a regional high school, became a middle school when the city started its own division in 1977, and reopened as an elementary school 13 years later.
