Manassas is usually weighed against three neighbors: the City of Manassas Park, about 3 miles away and the only other city that borders it; Linton Hall, about 5 miles away in Prince William County; and Centreville, about 7 miles away in Fairfax County. Linton Hall and Centreville are the two largest Census places in the area around Manassas. They are different kinds of government. Manassas and Manassas Park are independent cities: each sets its own tax rate and runs its own schools, police and fire department. Linton Hall and Centreville are unincorporated, so their county does all of that.
