The City of Manassas picks up trash and recycling at homes inside the city limits, with yard waste every Monday and bulk items by appointment. Service is paid through the city utility bill, not property taxes: the city lists the monthly fee as $31.59 for single-family homes and $35.38 for townhomes. For a missed pickup, a new cart or a bulk pickup, call the Trashline at 703-257-8252 or use the “Report a Problem” button in the city’s Waste Wise tool.

Some homes with a Manassas mailing address or a 20110 ZIP code are outside the city limits, in Prince William County, and do not get city pickup.

Missed pickups reported before 2 p.m. are collected the same day. After 2 p.m., they are picked up the next business day, and a miss reported after 2 p.m. on a Friday is picked up Monday. Use the city’s missed collection form or call the Trashline.

Fall leaf collection

City crews vacuum loose leaves from the curb from October to January, one section of the city at a time. Rake leaves into piles at the edge of the street or sidewalk the day before your section’s collection week begins. Each pile is collected once per pass. Do not rake leaves into the street outside the October to January season. Find your section on the leaf collection map.

Sections Remaining 2026 collection weeks

3, 9, 11 and 12 Nov. 2-6, Nov. 30 to Dec. 4, Dec. 28-31

Sections 1, 2, 5 and 6 had their first pass Oct. 5-9, and sections 3, 9, 11 and 12 had theirs Oct. 13-16.

Yard waste

Yard waste (grass clippings, leaves, brush and shrub trimmings) is collected every Monday for all city residents. Set it out Sunday night.

  • Use biodegradable paper yard waste bags or your own container marked “Yard Waste.” Plastic bags are not collected.
  • Brush must be no longer than 4 feet and no more than 3 inches across, tied in bundles with rope or twine.
  • Up to 10 bags and 10 bundles per pickup, each under 50 pounds.
  • No rocks, dirt, sod, stumps, mulch, whole trees or storm cleanup. Trees cut by a landscaper or tree service are the property owner’s job to remove.

The city’s solid waste code allows a fine of up to $3,000 for yard waste in plastic bags, loose yard waste or oversized limbs at the curb.

Bulk pickup

Furniture and other large items need an appointment. Call the Trashline at 703-257-8252 at least 48 hours ahead, or use “Report a Problem” and choose a bulk pickup. Bulk day is Wednesday for single-family homes and Tuesday or Friday for townhomes, which may differ from your trash day.

  • Limit of three items per household per pickup.
  • Accepted: bookcases, cabinets, chairs, dressers, dishwashers, sofas, tables, treadmills, washers, dryers and small rolls of carpet.
  • Not accepted: auto parts, tires, mowers, chemicals, dirt, brick or pavers, fallen limbs and stumps, and large amounts of construction debris.
  • TVs and computer monitors are collected curbside, but schedule them separately.
  • Glass items must be packed in cardboard, taped shut and labeled “GLASS.”

The city’s $225 courtesy truck rental for big cleanouts runs only April 1 to Sept. 30, and the city says 2026 reservations are full.

Recycling and glass

Recycling takes plastics #1, #2 and #5, cardboard, mixed paper and aluminum and steel cans. Rinse containers and put items in the cart loose. No plastic bags. Each home can have up to two recycling carts free; carts are delivered and exchanged on Thursdays.

Glass is no longer recycled curbside. Take clean glass bottles and jars to the purple glass-only container outside the Public Works complex at 8500 Public Works Drive, open 24/7. Cardboard can also go to drop-off bins there, behind the Harris Pavilion and at the Manassas Transfer Station.

Hazardous waste, shredding and drop-off sites

The city’s free Household Hazardous Waste and RecycleFest days run from 8 a.m. to noon at the Manassas Transfer Station, 8305 Quarry Road, for city residents (proof of residency may be required). The last 2026 date is Saturday, Nov. 7, with no shredding or electronics. The 2027 dates are April 3, May 1, June 5, Sept. 4, Oct. 2 and Nov. 6; the May 1 and Oct. 2 events add document shredding (four-box limit) and electronics recycling.

Bring paint, motor oil, antifreeze, batteries, pesticides, pool chemicals, propane tanks and fluorescent bulbs. Do not put lithium batteries in the trash or recycling.

The Manassas Transfer Station is run by Waste Management and open 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday; residents can self-haul for a fee. The Prince William County Landfill, 17811 Dumfries Road, takes city residents’ loads for a fee but not their hazardous waste or electronics.
