Memorial Day is Monday, May 31, 2027. In Manassas the day is marked on the battlefield where more than 3,500 soldiers died in the two Civil War battles, according to the National Park Service, which holds ranger programs on Henry Hill every Memorial Day weekend. Memorial Day on the battlefield

Manassas National Battlefield Park calls Memorial Day its most sacred date after the battle anniversaries. The 2027 schedule had not been posted when we checked. What the park did in recent years:

  • 2025 (May 24-26): the dedication and unveiling of Faces of the Fallen, a permanent exhibit of photographs and short biographies of more than 120 soldiers killed in the First and Second Battles of Manassas, at 10 a.m.; ranger-guided tours that follow one soldier through each battle; Henry Hill walking tours; a “Life and Death in the Civil War” walk; living history and Junior Ranger activities.
  • 2023: a ceremony at the Patriots Monument on Henry Hill with the 8th Regiment Green Machine Band, with remarks, songs and poetry from the monuments’ original 1865 dedications, according to the park’s Memorial Day page.

The park is free. The Henry Hill Visitor Center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Pool opening weekend

The city’s Stonewall Park Pool, 8300 Stonewall Road, opens Memorial Day weekend. The 2026 schedule:

Daily admission is $7, $3.75 after 4 p.m., and free for children under 3; seniors 60 and older and military get 50% off.
