Help the city find your outage

The city tracks outage calls with an automated phone system that matches your phone number to your service address. Many homes no longer have a landline, so the city asks customers to add their cell phone number to their utility account. With your number on file, the system can locate your address when you call 703-257-8353, and the city says it can respond more quickly.

Before you call

  1. Check your breakers. If only part of your home is dark, it may be a tripped breaker.
  2. Look at the outage map. If your area is already shown, crews know about it, but reporting your own address still helps.
  3. Ask a neighbor. If their lights are on and yours are off, the problem may be the line to your house. Report it.
  4. Stay away from downed lines. Assume every fallen wire is live. Call 911.

How reliable is the city’s power?

The city says its electric service had a year-to-date reliability rating of 99.988% in 2024, as reported in the U.S. Energy Information Administration’s industry report, and ranked second in Virginia on three reliability measures that year.

Starting or moving electric service

City utility customer service handles electric, water, sewer, stormwater and trash accounts. New customers need a completed application, valid identification and a deposit (which a passing utility credit check can waive). Applications can be made in person at the Public Works building, 8500 Public Works Drive, by email to cs@ci.manassas.va.us, or by fax. Customer service: 703-257-8219. Pay a bill online. • Medical equipment: if someone at home depends on power, have a backup plan before storm season.
